One of the basic principles between countries is that a state should not use its territory or its policies to harm its neighbors or other countries in the region. Regimes born out of intrigue and betrayal, however, have always tried to use their soil and policies against neighboring states and to create threats for them.
The arrest of several key Daesh figures in different countries, along with their own confessions that they had been operating from Pakistani territory under the protection of Pakistan’s military regime, is yet more evidence that Pakistan’s soil is being used against countries across the region.
Over the past few years, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has captured a number of Daesh members and attackers. In their confessions, they repeatedly stated that they had been trained in different parts of Pakistan and that they received full support and training from military and intelligence circles within that country. These admissions form part of the growing evidence behind such claims.
Turkey’s MIT arrested a Daesh member who was responsible for the group’s media propaganda activities inside Turkey. He confessed that their training and residential centers are located in Pakistan’s Balochistan. The IEA had previously shared documented reports and hard evidence about these centers with the international community and had raised the issue during discussions with Pakistan’s regime through Turkish mediation. The current evidence, including the confession of Ahmed Kazanci, Daesh’s propaganda chief arrested in Turkey, not only confirms the accuracy, vigilance, and credibility of Afghanistan’s intelligence apparatus, but also makes clear that Pakistan’s soil has been used by this military regime for malicious purposes.
Pakistan’s military regime has not only used its territory this way. It has also openly violated international agreements, commitments, and the principles of foreign policy. Such conduct continues on an international scale and shows the regime’s readiness to serve American and Israeli interests. Wherever a country finds itself at odds with the United States and its allies, Pakistan’s military regime, both in its open and hidden roles, plays a part in fueling instability and conflict against it.
Daesh has not only planned and carried out bloody operations in Afghanistan and Turkey over the past year. It has also pursued similar plans and activities against other regional countries, including Russia, with the aim of making countries that are moving toward stronger ties and shared interests with Afghanistan suspicious of Kabul and weakening their trust in it.
