A few days ago, Turkish media reported that a Turkish citizen named Ahmed Kazanci had been arrested in Pakistan and transferred to Turkey. Citing Turkish intelligence sources, the reports confirmed his arrest but did not disclose where in Pakistan he had been detained.
Pakistan’s military regime’s propaganda accounts attempted to exploit this ambiguity by portraying Afghanistan as Kazanci’s area of activity. However, Al-Mirsaad has obtained fresh information from its own sources regarding his activities.
According to Al-Mirsaad’s sources, Ahmed Kazanci was known within the ranks of the Daeshi Khawarij as Ubaydah al-Turki. He traveled to Balochistan via Iran at a time when Daesh training centers in the area were still active.
The sources say that Kazanci, together with another foreign national known as Muhammad, received military training after arriving at the Daeshi Khawarij camps. He later began working in the group’s media department.
Because Kazanci suffered from hemorrhoids and the harsh mountain conditions offered him no proper facilities, his superiors later transferred him to an urban area. During his military training, another foreign fighter named Abdullah trained alongside Ubaydah. Abdullah was later arrested inside Iran.
After Daesh’s centers in Balochistan were dismantled, Kazanci was seen during the following Ramadan in Khyber and Orakzai in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as part of the group led by the Daesh commander Siddiq Yar. According to the sources, his health had deteriorated significantly by then, and because of the severity of his illness, he was no longer able to carry out the media responsibilities assigned to him.
It is worth noting that last December, Turkish media reported the arrest in Balochistan of another Turkish citizen, Muhammad Goren. At the time, Al-Mirsaad reported, citing its own sources, that the camp where Yahya (Muhammad Goren) had received training was primarily used to train foreign nationals for attacks in European countries, Central Asia, and Iran. Some trainees also returned to their home countries after completing their training there.
Before Muhammad Goren’s arrest, another well-known Turkish Daesh member, Abu Yasir al-Turki (Ozgur Altun), was arrested in Balochistan in July 2025.
The arrest of senior Daesh military and media operatives in areas under the control of Pakistan’s military regime demonstrates that the Daeshi Khawarij operate under the protection of Pakistani intelligence. Unless coordinated efforts are made to dismantle these networks, they will continue using these areas as a base from which to threaten the security of Afghanistan, the region, and the wider world.
