A Glimpse into the Life and Legacy of Martyr Nusratullah Sangin (May Allah Accept Him)

Martyr Nusratullah Sangin was a man of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and fierce resolve. He lived not for himself, but in defense of his oppressed people, a humble mujahid whose actions echoed louder than his words. Courageous, capable, and utterly sincere, he embodied the spirit of sacrifice, dedicating his entire life to resisting tyranny and upholding the truth.

Nusratullah, son of Habibullah, was born in 1373 (Solar Hijri) in the village of Aitbar Khel, in Wardak’s Nirkh District. His family was known for its piety and its history in the jihad.

Education and Spiritual Path

He studied in a madrasa and committed the entire Qur’an to memory. From a young age, he was drawn to religious scholarship and lived by Islamic principles with heartfelt devotion. The yearning for martyrdom never left his heart; it remained a quiet flame, guiding his devotion to the path of Allah Almighty.

The Call to Jihad

The brutality of Arbaki militias in Nirkh District, and their oppression of innocent civilians, compelled him to break his silence. In 1390 (Solar Hijri), he joined the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) and took to the active front of jihad. Almost immediately, he threw himself into operations against enemy forces.

One of his most remarkable feats was a large-scale operation behind Bomb Ghar in Nirkh, targeting a major Arbaki base. From inside a house, he helped dig a tunnel stretching over 120 meters, planting explosives that destroyed the compound entirely. The success of this mission freed local residents from years of violence and forced Arbaki forces out of more than half the district.

Leadership and Roles

Recognized for his skill, discipline, and dedication, Nusratullah was repeatedly given positions of trust. He served as customs chief of Paktia Province and later as deputy commander of the Red Unit. Though he never traveled abroad, he carried out critical missions across multiple Afghan provinces in service of the jihad.

Jihadi Struggles

He was especially skilled as a technician, expert in constructing mines and handling complex tasks. Much of his later effort focused on combating Daeshi Khawarij, and he played a key role in several operations against them. In one such mission in Nangarhar, he led a raid on a house sheltering numerous ISIS fighters. The engagement took many enemy lives, but in that same firefight, Nusratullah Sangin was also struck down.

For this weary yet steadfast mujahid, the longing he had carried for so long was finally fulfilled. With his blood, he illuminated the path of truth.

O Allah, accept him among the martyrs and grant him the highest Paradise.

Date of martyrdom: 1400/9/12 (Solar Hijri)

Personal Glimpse

Nusratullah Sangin was married to two wives, though Allah Almighty did not grant him children. One of the most painful moments of his life came on the night of his second marriage, when his home was raided. By the grace of Allah, he was spared capture.
