Middle Eastern media, citing American officials, have reported that a local leader of ISIS was killed in an airstrike along with one of his associates in Deir ez-Zor, Syria.
As per the reports, the individual, identified by the alias Abu Yusuf within ISIS, was commonly known as Mahmoud and was active in Deir ez-Zor Province.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has indicated that Abu Yusuf held the position of governor in the Al-Khair sub-province under the Daesh extremist group. As of now, ISIS has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
It is important to note that Deir ez-Zor is a Syrian city where ISIS maintains a clandestine presence and occasionally carries out attacks on affluent locals who refuse to pay extortion money.
