The Holy Quran: The Light of Blessed Ramadan
The holy month of Ramadan, with all its grandeur, has a unique distinction that sets it apart from other months. It is the month in which the Noble Quran was revealed. Allah Almighty says in His sacred book:
«شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ هُدًى لِلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِنَ الْهُدَى وَالْفُرْقَانِ» (البقرة، ۱۸۵).
“Ramaḍân is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the decisive authority.”
The deep connection between the blessed month of Ramadan and the Noble Quran holds great divine wisdom. Fasting purifies the human heart and prepares the soul to receive Allah’s light. In this month, the rust of sins is removed from hearts, and believers are given the chance to draw closer to the Quran. For this reason, Ramadan is called the month of the Noble Quran. It is a time when the souls of the faithful are scented by the recitation of the Quran, and the voices of its divine verses reach the heavens carried by angels.
One of the beautiful expressions of this month is “Rabi’ al-Quran,” meaning the spring of the Noble Quran. Everything has its own spring, and the spring of the Noble Quran is the month of Ramadan. Just as the earth revives and flowers bloom in spring, in Ramadan the Quran comes alive in the hearts of believers, and the flowers of faith blossom within them.
The secret behind all this grandeur and honor is that Ramadan is the month of closeness to Allah, a nearness in which Allah Almighty presents Himself as the closest observer of our deeds. The special brilliance of this divine invitation is highlighted in verse 186 of Surah Al-Baqarah. Remarkably, after the verses outlining the rules of fasting (Al-Baqarah: 183–185), Allah subtly turns to this theme, conveying the message of intimacy and nearness, saying:
«وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِى عَنِّى فَإِنِّى قَرِيبٌ ۖ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ ٱلدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ ».
“When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me.”
The order of these verses carries a profound message, as if after the rules of fasting are explained, a question naturally arises in the believer’s mind: “Is there anyone who hears us through the highs and lows of this journey?” Allah Almighty immediately responds, not only do I hear, but I am also near, and I answer. This reflects the special closeness a host shows to their honored guests.
It is worth noting that when the blessed month of Ramadan arrives, mosques become crowded, Quranic recitations increase, and the entire community is filled with a unique sense of spirituality.
We must remember that our behavior during this month determines its outcome and the rewards we gain. The difference between these two perspectives is like the difference between outward appearance and inward reflection. During the blessed month of Ramadan, the purification of the soul cannot be complete without intimacy with the Noble Quran. The Quran is a cure for hearts and a remedy for spiritual ailments.
Let us, therefore, strengthen our companionship with the Noble Quran this blessed month, reflect deeply on its verses, and use this healing scripture to cleanse and elevate our souls.
