The Ministry of Interior of Syria’s newly established government has reported the thwarting of a Daesh plot to attack a shrine in Damascus.
As per the Syrian state news agency, officials have stated that the General Directorate of Intelligence, in collaboration with relevant agencies, carried out an operation against a Daesh hideout on the outskirts of Damascus. Subsequently, four individuals affiliated with Daesh were apprehended.
The report indicates that the arrested individuals had plans to execute an attack on the Sayyida Zeinab shrine in Damascus. They had also prepared explosives and other equipment for this nefarious purpose.
The Sayyida Zainab shrine, located on the outskirts of Damascus, holds great significance for Shiites. It is believed by Imamiyyah Shias to be the burial site of Sayyida Zeinab (RA), the daughter of Hazrat Ali (RA).
In the previous month, Daesh extremists had issued a threat to persist in their opposition against the newly established government following the triumph of Syria’s Mujahideen. The recent foiled plot demonstrates that this extremist group is attempting to reignite the flames of conflict in Syria and turn the sacred land of Sham into a perpetual battlefield.
