A report from Russian state media on Friday revealed that an ISIS attack plan in Moscow has been successfully thwarted.
According to the TASS news agency, citing security agencies, individuals from Central Asian countries affiliated with ISIS had devised a plan to target an office of Russia’s Interior Ministry in Moscow. However, their plan was uncovered, and they were neutralized during operations.
Reports indicate that the suspects had acquired a vehicle and loaded it with propane gas cylinders as part of their plan to construct an improvised explosive device.
Russian authorities have not disclosed the precise identities of the eliminated suspects. However, based on previous cases of ISIS exploiting Tajik nationals in Russia and other parts of the world, it is widely assumed that these individuals may also be Tajik citizens.
It is worth noting that, alongside Russia and the Western world, many ISIS fighters involved in attacks in Afghanistan and neighboring countries are of Tajik nationality. Sources indicate that in recent times, Tajik nationals typically travel first to Pakistan via Turkey, where they undergo training before being deployed to Afghanistan and adjacent regions.
