On the last Saturday, which corresponds to Mizan 21, 1403 / Rabi al-Thani 9, 1446, the Rebellion Front (NRF) claimed responsibility for the killing of four soldiers in an attack en route to the Charsada district of Ghor province. By the end of the day, ISIS’s official news agency, Amaq, also took credit for the same ‘attack,’ stating that three individuals were martyred and one was injured.
In their announcement, the Rebellion Front (NRF) also mentioned that they had seized the weapons of the targeted individuals. This incident serves as the most recent demonstrable instance of close collaboration between ISIS and the NRF. Previously, Al-Mersaad had repeatedly issued reports highlighting the close coordination between ISIS and insurgents, with the NRF aiding in the transportation of fighters and ammunition both domestically and internationally.
On June 28, 2024, in Baghlan’s Nahrin district, two prominent NRF commanders were killed. Subsequent investigations confirmed to Al-Mersaad that these individuals had strong affiliations with ISIS, and that coordination between the leaders of both groups was facilitated by a man named Commander Musa. Commander Musa had served as a subordinate under former warlord Commander Hazrat Ali before aligning himself with ISIS.
Furthermore, last year, an ISIS preacher, whose father-in-law had been slain during the initial stages of the rebellion, expressed in an audio message that he includes the Rebellion Front (NRF) in his prayers and will continue to do so until his last breath.
The close military, propaganda, and logistical partnership between ISIS and the Rebellion Front poses an escalating threat to the region and the world. This is due to the fact that ISIS has not only taken advantage of these alliances within Afghanistan but has also expanded the dissemination of their fighters and propaganda globally as a result of these partnerships.
