ISIS militants have launched a fresh attack on an oil tanker in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province, as part of their sustained efforts to extort money from wealthy individuals and private companies.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the attack occurred between the villages of Al-Kibar and Al-Jazrat in western Deir ez-Zor. While no casualties have been reported, the tanker sustained damage during the assault.
Deir ez-Zor remains a tense and unstable region. While Kurdish militias maintain control over much of the area, ISIS continues to operate actively, employing tactics aimed at financial extortion. Over the years, the group has targeted oil companies and wealthy individuals under the pretext of what it labels “economic operations.” When its demands are ignored, ISIS frequently resorts to direct attacks on assets, infrastructure, or personnel associated with its targets.
