The unrestricted movement of a high-ranking Daesh commander within the Iraqi Consulate in Turkey has provoked a storm of outrage among the Iraqi populace. A member of the Iraqi Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee has demanded that the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs bring this fugitive terrorist to justice—a man condemned to death in absentia by an Iraqi court.
According to a report by the daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi, Jabbar Al-Kanani, the Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, stated to the media that Rafi Mashhan Al-Jumaili, a Daesh commander infamous for the brutal slaying of an Iraqi soldier, visited the Iraqi consulate in Turkey without fear of reprisal. The committee member urged the country’s institutions to address this grave matter with the utmost seriousness and ensure the arrest of this Daesh commander.
In a heartfelt video statement, the brother of the Iraqi soldier murdered by Al-Jumaili talked about how the arrival of a murderer at the consulate and his meeting with the Consul General is evidence that sympathizers of this criminal exist within the consulate. The presence of this murderer at the consulate has angered the Iraqi people, who are now fervently calling upon the government to adopt a firm stance against Daesh affiliates, rather than offering them tacit sympathy.
It must be noted that Syria and Iraq (which were once bastions of the Daeshi insurgency) were regions where many spies had infiltrated the ranks of Daesh. Al-Jumaili’s movement at the Iraqi Consulate in Turkey suggests that Western agencies are attempting to utilize him through their agents within Iraqi institutions to further their own interests and to bring their plans to fruition.
