On Saturday, March 29 (29th Ramadan), an ISIS suicide bomber attempted an attack on a Baloch protest in Balochistan, which ultimately failed.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the early hours in the Lakpas area of Mastung, where an ISIS suicide bomber attempted to target a demonstration organized against the policies of the Pakistani regime and its organizer, Sardar Akhtar Mengal. Upon being identified, the assailant detonated the explosives strapped to his body while attempting to flee, resulting in his death.
Initial reports indicate no casualties among the protesters.
For several days, Baloch protesters, led by Sardar Akhtar Mengal, have been demonstrating against enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of their activists and relatives. The protesters are demanding that the Islamabad regime cease its oppressive measures and grant them their legitimate rights.
Notably, Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s name appeared on a hit list obtained from a key ISIS-affiliated network on July 10, 2024. The list identified individuals targeted by ISIS in Pakistan and was published by Al-Mirsaad in October 2024. It can be accessed here.
Mastung serves as a significant operational and leadership hub for ISKP and its so-called “Pakistan Province.” This failed attack underscores the active presence of these militant groups and suggests their potential utilization by the Pakistani regime and military establishment to suppress dissent and eliminate political opponents.
