Part 2
Ahmad Rashid Al-Zarqa
The Islamic system, revealed by Allah (SWT), is a sacred and divinely ordained system of life and law. Unlike man-made systems that emerge from human deliberation, political ideology, or ethnic identity, the Islamic system stands distinguished in both origin and objective. In this section, we shall present one of its core merits: its divinely rooted nature.
1. A Divine System
One of the most defining and exalted features of the Islamic system is that it is Rabbani, meaning divine in nature. This divinely guided system is characterized by two foundational aspects:
– It is divine in terms of its source and origin
– It is divine in terms of its purpose and objective
A. Divine in Origin
The Islamic system does not arise from human will, the traditions of a tribe, the vision of a political party, or the consensus of a nation. Rather, it is a revealed system from Allah (SWT), sent down through the trustworthy angel Jibril to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is grounded in the eternal wisdom and will of the Creator of mankind.
The Noble Qur’an affirms this reality in numerous verses. Among them:
“Do they then seek the judgment of [the days of] ignorance? And who is better in judgment than Allah for a people who have firm faith?”
— Al-Ma’idah 5:50
“And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed—then it is they who are the disbelievers.”
— Al-Ma’idah 5:44
“And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed—then it is they who are the wrongdoers.”
— Al-Ma’idah 5:45
“And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed—then it is they who are the defiantly disobedient.”
— Al-Ma’idah 5:47
These powerful verses underscore that the Islamic system is not a human invention but a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
B. Divine in Purpose
The Islamic system is not limited to governance or the administration of a state. Rather, its purpose transcends politics and legal structures. Its ultimate goal is the liberation of humanity from servitude to false powers, the establishment of justice, the propagation of monotheism (Tawheed), and the exclusive worship of Allah (SWT).
This system encompasses all dimensions of human life including spiritual, social, economic, legal, and political aspects. It offers guidance that leads to salvation from misguidance and promises success in both this world and the Hereafter.
Allah (SWT) declares in the Qur’an:
“Say, ‘Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. No partner has He. And this I have been commanded, and I am the first [among you] of the Muslims.'”
— Al-An’am 6:162–163
This verse profoundly expresses that every action, including worship, sacrifice, life, and death, must be devoted solely to Allah, the One without partner. Such is the comprehensive nature of the Islamic system: a complete submission to the divine will.
