The West African branch of the al-Qaeda-affiliated jihadist movement has launched an attack on ISIS militants in Burkina Faso.
In a statement issued on July 8, Az-Zallaqa, the media outlet of Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), reported that its fighters targeted an ISIS unit in the Bonbofa area of Dori province, killing several militants.
This is not the first time al-Qaeda has conducted operations against ISIS in Burkina Faso; previous attacks have also resulted in heavy losses for the ISIS group.
