The U.S. Department of Justice recently issued a statement revealing the arrest of a 27-year-old Afghan man suspected of involvement in a planned assault during the upcoming U.S. election.
Reports from American media outlets suggest that prior to his arrival in the U.S., this individual served as a security guard for the CIA in Afghanistan. In September 2021, U.S. intelligence, in conjunction with numerous other spies and mercenary fighters, facilitated his evacuation from Afghanistan.
Quoting information from two American officials, NBC News disclosed that Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi was taken into custody last Monday in Oklahoma by the FBI after procuring two AK-47s and ammunition in anticipation of targeting individuals during the upcoming U.S. election with links to ISIS. According to the U.S. Department of Justice’s press release, an undercover FBI agent had sold the weapons to him. NBC News also reported that Tawhedi had provided financial support to an ISIS fundraising organization in March.
Legal documents from the state of Oklahoma revealed that Tawhedi had sold his father-in-law’s property in that state for $185,000. His intention was to repatriate his family to Afghanistan on October 17 to live “under the shade of true Islam.” (Tohidi perceives Afghanistan as the epicenter of true Islam, although some ISIS members regard the nation as a realm of disbelief and denounce those advocating “true Islam” there as apostates deserving of death. The disparity between the shifting positions of ISIS extremists and their activities is evident here.)
It is significant to note that certain ISIS extremists on digital platforms have affirmed their relationship with Tawhedi (who operates under the pseudonym Abu Amir) and referred to him as a “believer and loyal comrade.”
The case of Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, the CIA security guard’s arrest—which could itself be an intelligence tactic—further exposes the connection between Daesh extremists and foreign intelligence groups, revealing how much this extremist group is manipulated like a puppet by intelligence agencies.
