The local branch of Al-Qaeda in West Africa and the Sahel has announced the elimination of two ISIS members in a series of operations.
The media outlet of Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), Az-Zallaqa, reported on Monday (December 9) that the organization eradicated two ISIS fighters during a clash in Burkina Faso.
According to the statement, the confrontation occurred in the Dadil area of Dori town, resulting in the demise of the two ISIS members. In addition, the organization seized weapons and four motorcycles.
It is pertinent to mention that Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin is an active division of Al-Qaeda in West Africa (operating in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger) and the Sahel region under the umbrella of “Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.” However, akin to the scenario in Afghanistan, ISIS has arisen as a significant adversary and impediment for Al-Qaeda in West Africa and the Sahel.
