It is widely recognized that the true nature and essence of ISIS has become evident to all; ISIS, recognized as a terrorist organization, is now synonymous with fear, violence, and terror. The group, structured with intelligence support, driven by a distorted ideology, has not only disrupted the security and stability of the region but has also severely tarnished human values such as honor, dignity, and integrity.

ISIS, promoting an unstable and distorted interpretation of Islam, aims to establish an “Islamic Caliphate” through the propagation of hatred and violence. Currently, it poses as one of the most significant threats to global security. While presenting a new perception of religiosity and faith, in reality, it deviates significantly from the authentic and foundational teachings of Islam.

In a scenario where Muslims would have faced an external threat, they might have not felt as vulnerable and defenseless. Nevertheless, the individuals who have formulated the structure of ISIS attack Islam using the guise of the religion itself.

This situation has placed Muslims in a state of doubt and weakness, while allowing Islam’s enemies the opportunity to invade Islamic societies and impose their ideologies and agendas.

The Role of Scholars:
In the midst of this crisis, the responsibility falls upon the scholars, the intellectual and religious forefront of Muslims, to counter this distorted and dangerous interpretation of Islam and jihad.

Preventing the Spread of ISIS Ideology:
It is mandatory upon Islamic scholars to safeguard Islam from these harmful and destructive ideologies. Below are some crucial responsibilities that scholars must undertake:

1. Providing the Correct Interpretation of Islam:

Scholars are tasked with clearly and comprehensively presenting the notions of peace, mercy, and justice in Islam, aligning with the genuine and rational interpretation of the religion.

2. Exposing the Ideologies and Beliefs of ISIS:

Scholars and intellectuals in the Islamic realm must reveal the aberrant beliefs and actions of ISIS and demonstrate to the public the vast divide between this group and the authentic teachings of Islam.

3. Combating Sectarianism and Division:

Scholars are to advocate for unity and fraternity among Muslims and prevent ISIS from exploiting sectarian differences for their own benefit.

4. Educating and Training the Youth:

It is imperative for scholars to guide and educate the younger generation towards the authentic teachings of Islam, ensuring they are shielded from the influence of false ideologies and prevented from being lured by extremism.

As the intellectual and religious leaders of the Muslim community, scholars bear the critical responsibility of elucidating ISIS’s doctrines and actively resisting its influence. By doing so, they can significantly reduce the reach of ISIS and bring about substantial benefits to the Muslim Ummah.

It is important to note that the more prevalent ISIS’s ideology becomes in society, the more the trust and reliance of the people in an Islamic framework will diminish.

Therefore, it is the obligation of all Muslims, particularly scholars and intellectuals, to take practical and fundamental measures to confront this unfortunate phenomenon and effectively counter it.
