Syrian Intelligence Captures Senior ISIS Leader

Syrian intelligence has captured the ISIS commander responsible for the killing of Abu Maria al-Qahtani and the failed attack on the Sayyidah Zainab shrine.

According to Syria’s state news agency (SANA), citing intelligence sources, Abu al-Harith al-Iraqi played a key role in ISIS operations across Iraq and Syria. He was responsible for overseeing foreign recruitment and coordinating logistical support for terrorist attacks.

SANA reports that al-Iraqi was directly involved in planning and coordinating multiple attacks and assassinations, including the killing of senior Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) military leader Maysar al-Jubouri, also known as Abu Maria al-Qahtani.

The report further states that the recently apprehended terrorist cell, which had planned to attack the Sayyidah Zainab shrine near Damascus, was operating under al-Iraqi’s direction.

It is important to note that following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government, ISIS had issued threats to continue its war against the newly established regime. However, recent arrests suggest that the new Syrian government is aware of this threat and is resolute in safeguarding the lives and property of the Syrian populace from the violent actions of this ruthless group.
