The Malian Armed Forces have announced the elimination of a senior commander of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) during a recent military operation.
According to an official statement published on the army’s Facebook page, the militant, identified as Abu Dahdah, was killed on Saturday, June 28, in the Chimam area of the Ménaka region. One of his bodyguards was also killed during the operation.
While the nationality of the slain militant was not officially confirmed, some sources suggest he was a Moroccan national.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that another ISIS commander, identified as Abu Bakr Ibrahim, along with ten of his associates, has surrendered to the Malian military.
