Al-Mirsaad has received information from its sources indicating that ISIS militants are planning to assassinate Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, the leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) party.
Sources informed Al-Mirsaad that IS-K has added Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman to its hit list and is actively seeking opportunities to eliminate him.
Recent reports in Pakistani media also suggest that the country’s security agencies have warned Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman about the imminent threat to his life and advised him to enhance his security measures.
Citing Pakistani officials, media reports have indicated that the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is under threat from the Pakistani Taliban. However, the Pakistani Taliban has repeatedly denied targeting religious political parties or their leaders, stating that they do not view them as adversaries.
Last year, Al-Mirsaad obtained a list from ISIS-K through its sources. The list included not only members of Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman’s party but also prominent political opponents of the Pakistani regime, marking them as high-priority targets for ISIS-K in Pakistan.
With prior warnings, there is speculation that Pakistani security agencies might use Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman’s situation for political maneuvering, potentially diverting blame away from ISIS.
